Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
